WPP are a leading supplier of packaging in Ontario. They have been working with Bio-Origins to find alternatives to plastic products prevalent in the fresh produce sector. Significant progress is being made to this end and we are hoping 2021 will see some game changing products in the sector through this partnership.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that in addition to banning single-use plastics, his government would take other, unspecified steps to reduce plastic pollution.

Trudeau did not specify the products to be banned, but said likely candidates include plastic bags, straws, cutlery, plates and stir sticks “where supported by scientific evidence and warranted.”

Bio-Origins Inc. has established a pilot manufacturing plant in Cambridge Ontario. This project was funded by the Canadian Agriculture Partnership, a five-year federal-provincial-territorial initiative. The pilot plant will demonstrate and manufacture packaging from locally grown miscanthus and switchgrass. Work started on this project in early 2020 and engages supply chain partners with process design and optimization.

In our never ending quest to seek answers to questions related to solving real world problems Bio-Origins Inc. is always looking for like-minded partners to work with respect to tackling challenging issues. When we had an idea on how to make sustainable food packaging and dinnerware out of renewable biomass, we approached Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario.
